History

The Garrett Suite is named for Colonel John Garrett, the founding father of Garrettsville, Ohio, and his family. Garrett, his wife, Eleanor, and their five children came to Ohio from Delaware in 1804, and built a grist mill on Silver Creek that served settlers within a twenty mile radius. Garrett died of pneumonia in 1806, reportedly on the day his mill was to have started operations, but Eleanor survived him by forty years. After her husband's death, Eleanor assumed the multiple responsibilities of maintaining the family, operating the mill, and establishing the town of Garrettsville, even serving as postmistress during the town's early years.
